De två mest kända, J. R. R. Tolkiens Bilbo – en hobbits äventyr och Lewis Carrolls Alice i underlandet är illustrerade under 1960-talet. Speciellt den sistnämnda var ett krävande och framstående projekt. Tove gjorde även illustrationer till Carrolls bok Snarkjakten.

During her career, Tove Jansson also illustrated books written by other prestigious authors. The two most important of these were illustrated in the 1960s, J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In 1959 Tove was also asked to illustrate the Swedish version of Carroll’s The Hunting of the Snark.

Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was a Finnish author and artist, most known for her books on Moomin.. I love Tove Jansson's singular style, and I love these illustrations, but this calendar was a huge disappointment for me, simply because all the illustrations are laid out across the fold. This severely compromises the presentation of the artwork, as there is a fold running right through every single image, splitting every image across two signature sheets.
